April 7 marks World Health Day. World Health Day is a global health awareness day created by the World Health Organization (WHO).
The day celebrates the WHO’s founding and is an opportunity to draw attention to subjects of major importance to global health each year. This year focuses on urgent actions needed to keep humans and the planet healthy and foster a movement to create societies focused on well-being.
The WHO estimates that more than 13 million deaths worldwide each year are due to avoidable environmental causes. This includes the climate crisis, the single biggest health threat facing humanity. The climate crisis is also a health crisis.
As a health organization, we want to work together to ensure everyone near and far has access to clean water and food. The hashtag of this year’s campaign is #HealthierTomorrow.
Our team came up with 9 actions to help create a #HealthierTomorrow.
- Walk or bike to school or work at least once a week
- Use public transport
- Change to a renewable energy provider
- Turn off the light when not needed
- Quit smoking
- Buy less plastic
- Use reusable grocery bags
- Buy your groceries from a local producer
- Avoid highly processed food
